During the past three years, Angela has been working with clients who have had knee replacement surgery who couldn’t bend their knees past 108 degrees, our wonderful military personnel who are returning from their overseas duties and tasks, as well as the PIHA (Pro Inline Hockey Assn.)
“Active Isolated Stretching: The Mattes Method” centers on physiological principles of specific muscle lengthening, increased circulation and oxygen to the tissues, lengthening of the superficial and deep fascia.
By utilizing the techniques of AIS; improvements in mobility for neurological problems – including spinal cord injuries, Cerebral Palsy, stroke, Parkinson’s disease and Lou Gehrigs disease – individuals recover faster and exceed the expectations of their doctors, including joint movements, posture restoration, ambulation and speech restoration. AIS provides specific movement and involves getting the neuromuscular system to function with the joints, muscles and fascia. It involves re-establishing concentration and active controlled movements which help increase circulation, oxygenation and lymphatic drainage. The increased blood flow to the flow and body movement allows oxygen to get to the vital areas of the body and help the individual(s) heal faster.
For knee replacements, individuals who have opted to utilize an AIS Therapist instead of just physical therapy have increased their range of motion from 108 degrees to upwards of 130 degrees in a few short weeks. (160 degrees is the maximum normal knee bend before a surgery and a maximum after surgery is 135 degrees)
AIS Therapists in Colorado are few and far between, we have some in Crested Butte and Grand Junction, but for the Front Range – Colorado Springs, Pueblo and Denver, I am it.
